In the summer of the 2025, I began performing my mist netting, banding, and sampling of various passerine species around Tucson, AZ! Our sampling sites range range from rural desert scrub to urban environments, including a special manmade wetland/wildlife oasis that stems from a local water treatment plant. We are taking blood and retrice feather samples to test for active West Nile Virus (WNV) infection via PCR, as well as evidence of past infections via ELISA antibody testing. Bird trapping occurs simultaneously with mosquito trapping to inform us of the specific place and time of bird-mosquito transmission.
